Reading Dublin: UCD Course

This year’s choice for the One City One Book festival is The Long Gaze Backan Anthology of Irish Women Writers edited by Sinéad Gleeson.

This course is designed to tie in with the ‘Dublin: One City, One Book’ festival 2018 and makes full use of events staged by Dublin City Libraries. The Long Gaze Back features writing from Maria Edgeworth in the 1800s up to writers of today like Eimear Ryan and everything from comedy to ghost stories, from well know writers like Mary Lavin and Somervile and Ross who wrote The Irish RM stories to more experimental writers like Lucy Caldwell.

The course will consider the changing place of Dublin in literature and examine different ways the city has been represented by writers. You will get to experience a broad range of writing produced by Irish women over the past 200 years. No prior knowledge or skills are required for this course beyond an enjoyment and an interest in reading and in finding out more about your city.
