The sun goes down but the city never sleeps. Authors Sarah Gilmartin, Roisin Kiberd, Thomas Morris will be in conversation with writer and editor James Hudson to discuss how their writing captures Dublin by night in its many guises; from the pressurised world of high-end hospitality and the raucous pub scene, to the spaces people frequent by night to escape the anxieties of daytime. In all their writing, characters feel the need to conform, to belong and to find connection, even as they find themselves disconnected and disillusioned.

Sarah Gilmartin is an Irish writer and arts journalist. Her bestselling debut novel Dinner Party (One, 2021) was shortlisted for an Irish Book Award and the Kate O’Brien Award. Her second novel Service (One, 2023) was a Waterstones Book of the Month and a Washington Post top books of summer. She is the 2025 writer-in-residence at Dublin City University.

Roisin Kiberd lectures in creative writing at the University of Galway, and is nonfiction editor of the Stinging Fly. Her first book, The Disconnect: A Personal Journey Through the Internet was published by Serpent’s Tail in 2021.

Thomas Morris is a writer and editor from Caerphilly, South Wales. His debut story collection, We Don’t Know What We’re Doing (Faber & Faber) won the Wales Book of the Year, the Rhys Davies Trust Fiction Prize, and a Somerset Maugham Award.
