Readings, conversation and music celebrating Nora Barnacle, her life in Galway and her role in the Joyce odyssey with Nuala O Connor, author of Nora: A Love Story of Nora Barnacle and James Joyce in conversation with Ray Burke, author of Joyce County, his book about Joyce’s links to Galway, facilitated by poet Emily Cullen. Throughout this celebration, the Nora-themed music by Carmel Dempsey, Tomás Mannion, Emily Greaney and Elizabeth Keane and a special premiere of the poem Nora Barnacle Speaks by Nuala O Connor with music composed by Roisín Mannion will enhance and highlight this west-east couple who eloped and had such a fascinating life in Europe.
Recorded in EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum on 6th April, author Nuala O’Connor in conversation with Nathan Mannion, Head of Exhibitions and Programmes at EPIC about emigrant letters and in particular the love letters written by James Joyce and how Nuala used them when writing her novel Nora: A Love Story of Nora Barnacle and James Joyce.
One Dublin One Book presents from Rathmines Library an evening of readings, conversation and music.
Nuala O’Connor reads from Nora: A Love Story of Nora Barnacle and James Joyce (New Island Books) as well as an exclusive reading of an extract not included in the book. She also talks about the inspiration for her novel, which has been chosen as the 2022 One Dublin One Book. Followed by Joyce-themed songs and music performed by Darina Gallagher and Sinead Murphy.
